Our "Green" Initiative

The Kosher Express is always seeking ways to repair the world and make it a better place. Our “Green” Initiative comes from our shared value of “Tikkun Olam”, and it is something that we are working towards everyday. Below is information on the materials we use and suggestions to help you re-use and/or re-cycle your containers safely and effectively. Styrofoam is the best material available for shipping our products:

  • Styrofoam insulates better than alternative materials, and use less energy to keep products frozen.
  • Styrofoam containers are 2-5 times lighter than alternative materials, and require less energy to transport
  • Styrofoam uses fewer resources to produce than the alternative materials.

Creative ways to “Re-Use” your Styrofoam Containers:

  • Insulate food for a family picnic.
  • Keep beverages cold during a special event.
  • Use as extra storage for a cluttered room.
  • Create wonderful art projects:
    • Trace a shape into the cardboard
    • Cut out the shape with a box cutter
    • Pour paint into a tray and get ready to have fun!
  • Use in your home garden:
    • Break Styrofoam into small pieces
    • Place at the bottom of a planter (instead of rocks)
    • Provides for improved water drainage
  • Ship something later on down the road.
  • Give to a friend for any of the above uses.

Ways to “Re-Cycle” your Styrofoam Containers:

  • Breaking down Styrofoam: Pour pure orange rind Oil (d-limonene) into a large container and add the Styrofoam. This will turn the Styrofoam into a sticky substance, which can be used as glue around the house. Please Note: use gloves when handling solvents and perform process in a well-ventilated area.
  • Local Re-Cycling: To find local places that accept Styrofoam containers, simply type “Re-Cycle Centers, Styrofoam, Polystyrene, [ENTER YOUR CITY]” into Google. Several local re-cycling centers will appear on the page. Remember, it is best to call ahead and confirm that these centers accept Styrofoam.
  • National Re-Cycling: Should there be no local re-cycling centers near you, we welcome you to ship your container back to The Kosher Express for a $5 credit off of your next purchase. Upon recieving your container, we will issue a $5 coupon code via email (please email us at Contact@thekosherexpress.com to inform us of the incoming shipment).
